Coming up Roses
Emily Freibert and Mario Ornelas
May 14, 2011
The May wedding of Emily Freibert and Mario Ornelas was a study in elegance and sophistication, featuring soft hues of pewter, blush, silver and white.
Attending a bridal show took much of the guesswork out of planning--the couple met their photographer, baker, event planner, and floral designer in one place. A tip from a friend led them to discover Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where the pair exchanged vows before family and friends, who had watched their relationship blossom over many years.
Bridesmaids in chic pewter gowns walked alongside groomsmen in dark suits with pewter ties. Roses, rhinestones and pearls accented the flower arrangements, including the bride’s bouquet which was encircled by white feathers.
Even the young attendants had fabulous florals. The couple’s daughter, the flower girl, carried a white satin basket, while the junior bridesmaid held a rose-covered handbag embellished with pearls and rhinestones.
During a cocktail hour, savory passed hors’ d oeuvres and the sounds of an acoustic guitarist set the tone for a romantic evening. Guests found their place cards displayed inside a gorgeous wooden box adorned with vintage bling, including buttons, charms, pearls and ribbons. The ballroom featured pale pink uplighting and a custom monogrammed Gobo shining on the wall behind the sweetheart table.
White silk table linens, scattered rose petals and silver chargers were set on each table. Centerpieces featured elegant bouquets of roses in pink and white, displayed in ornate silver candelabra placed alongside mercury glass votives. Each place setting included a tiny white box filled with personalized Hershey’s kisses, each wrapped with a silver band.
An elaborate dinner included herb-crusted breast of chicken and flatiron steak, gorgonzola potatoes and asparagus with tomatoes. At the end of the meal, the couple cut a spectacular cake. The four-tier confection featured white fondant, wide pink ribbons, and a fabulous crystal-embellished topper.
