A Desert Glow
Ashley Lyles and Jack Le Roy
April 30, 2011
Surrounded by the glow of the setting Arizona sun and the flickering light of hundreds of candles, Ashley Lyles and Jack Le Roy celebrated the first day of the rest of their lives at the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain.
Tucson native Ashley, who now lives with her groom in Boston, returned to her family and her desert roots for her wedding. “I wanted everything from my dress to the flowers and decor to be very soft, natural, not over-the-top,’ explains Ashley, who entrusted her vision to her floral designer.
The pair were wed on a lush lawn of green enhanced by a custom-made arch set against the natural landscape. “I’m not a flower person, so I wanted to incorporate other desert elements such as succulents, bougainvillea, grapevine, and my favorite, the candelabra,” says Ashley, adding, “The colors and materials of the arch popped against the mountain backdrop without taking away from the natural beauty.”
Desert elements were echoed in the groom’s calla lily and succulent boutonniere. Ashley’s gown was a breathtaking Vera Wang design, featuring beadwork, layers of tulle, and a variety of textures.
“Instead of the traditional vows, we incorporated reading ‘The Wedding Vow’ that deeply moved us when we first read it,” says Ashley. “This unexpected take on the traditional exchange of vows felt much more personal and special to us and our guests.”
Petite succulents in terra cotta pots bearing natural place cards directed guests to seats inside the Tortolita Ballroom for an exciting reception. Bathed in warm candlelight, the ballroom featured square, rectangular and round tables decorated with a sophisticated combination of flowers, succulents and iron candelabra. In a nod to the bride’s love of exotic prints, table settings included snakeskin print table runners and napkin rings.
A California-based band known for salsa and Latin music was chosen to add a spicy flair to the celebration. The couple’s well-rehearsed first dance went off without a hitch, although the bride confesses to being “too blissful and jittery to concentrate.”
