Looking Forward, Lookin Back
Leslie Gee and David Charo chose the last day of February as the beginning of their new life together.
The Westin La Paloma proved to be the perfect site for the formal outdoor ceremony followed by an indoor reception that was equal parts sentiment and sophistication. The dramatic backdrop of the Catalina Mountains welcomed guests who came from far and wide to the celebrate in the bride’s hometown.
The bride began the celebration wearing a fashion-forward single shoulder gown adorned with an antique-style brooch. In honor of her Chinese heritage, Leslie then changed into a custom-tailored red silk Chinese gown, or cheongsam. Leslie chose a stunning bouquet of red roses, while her attendants carried spectacular green and white orchids, calla lilies and roses.
Honoring family was a central theme for this pair, who included family members throughout the ceremony and reception. A lovely painting that adorned the wedding program was created by the groom’s grandmother. That same program included a speical tribute to the father of the bride, who passed away when she was a teenager. Officiating the ceremony was the groom’s aunt, while the two mothers participated in a unity candle lighting ceremony. In recognition of the different paths that led the bride and groom to each other, their reception featured an memorable display of family photographs.
In reverence to their families, David and Leslie took part in a Chinese tea ceremony, during which they presented cups of teas to their loved ones as an expression of gratitude. The guests, in turn, offered good wishes, money or jewelry in red envelopes--a symbol of good luck.
The newlyweds then treated their guests to a memorable choreographed first dance to Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.”
