Perhaps Tucson’s most interesting and historic venue is The Hotel Congress. The hotel is widely known as the place where bank robber John Dillinger and his gang were identified by an astute fireman--leading to their capture in 1934. Who knew that a fire in the hotel’s basement would secure the charming hotel’s place in history?
Today, the hotel retains much of its original charm and its classic style. What a wonderful place to stage your own historic event. The hotel’s 40 guest rooms are renovated in period style, featuring iron beds and vintage radios. Wireless internet is available, although the telephones still operate on the 1930s switchboard system. The hotel is home to the delightful Cup Cafe as well as the rockin’ Club Congress, where you can dance the night away 7 days a week.
From the dark wood furnishings, tile flooring, arched doorways and rustic chandeliers, the Hotel’s Copper Hall is a fantastic venue to stage a wedding with memorable flair. So-named because the walls are actually copper-leafed, Copper Hall is an ideal venue for the moderate-sized reception. The space can accommodate 140 for a plated meal, 125 for a buffet and 175 for passed hors d’oeuvres. The Hotel Congress staff is well-versed in the art of event planning, including expert catering services.
Among the unique and tantalizing offerings of the catering team here are Sonoran Spiced Crab Cakes with Chipotle Lime Cream and Peruvian Ceviche with Sweet Potato in a Corn Cup. Dinners might include the Medallions of Beef Tenderloin or the Southwest favorite Prickly Pear Glazed Chicken. Regardless of your entree selection, don’t miss the Hotel’s Signature Dessert, the Marquis au Chocolate. Imagine the decadence of a dense chocolate terrine garnished with strawberries, whipped vanilla cream and a sprig of mint.
The team offers a list of preferred vendors, including entertainment, florists, bakers, and photographers---who are all familiar with the special charm of The Hotel Congress. This venue, right in the heart of Tucson, is also a great place for wedding photographs. Aside from the furnishings and retro atmosphere here, you can take photographs near the vintage Hotel Congress sign, likely to be a favorite in your wedding album.
