the firefighter's flame

here was more to the wedding of Catherine Mayo and Brian Byars than “love and cherish.” When they wed in May, courage and honor were also quite high on the list for the Tucson couple.

As a firefighter, Brian’s commitment to his community is a driving force in the couple’s lives. Seeking to draw attention to that pledge, Catherine incorporated special elements into their wedding—some of them a surprise to Brian.

“We decided to offer mints with firefighter-themed wrappers scattered on the tables” explains Catherine, but “I extended the idea more, without his knowledge.”

A custom cake topper featuring a groom in a firefighter’s uniform holding his bride was a real show-stopper at the reception, as well as a special groom’s cake adorned with flames on the sides.

“To continue with the theme, our florist created two floral arrangements which were placed in Brian’s personal firefighter boots. The boots were positioned on plant stands at the beginning of the aisle. Many of our guests were also firefighters so the firefighter theme was a personal touch that signified honor and love.”

To capture the special memories created at their wedding at the Saguaro Buttes, Catherine and Brian had a photo booth for their guests. Always an ideal ice breaker, the photo booth was an opportunity for the guests to really cut loose and enjoy themselves. Glass photo coasters for each guest were the perfect size for those memories.

“Creating personal touches for my husband, family and friends made my wedding day special and memorable,” recalls Catherine.
