sometimes,
a modern-day couples love story...
The spring wedding of Carmen Ceballos
and Mark Speers was a traditional
family affair, bringing together the
generations across miles and cultures.
The couple felt that Tubac Golf
Resort was the ideal location, being the midpoint
between their families’ homes in Tucson and Sonora,
Mexico.
Bringing the two families together was a central
theme in the wedding of Carmen and Mark. The
guests were all smiles as they arrived to greet the
bride and groom prior to the ceremony.
Says Mark, “The day of our wedding was exciting.
I remember family arriving at the Otero house
where I was staying, and the groomsmen were getting
ready for early pictures. I dressed my one-yearold
son Daniel in his tux, and his shoes
matching mine.” Thus began a moving
day for bride and groom.
At one point, the groom was
asked to go inside the house so that
he wouldn’t see his bride before the
ceremony. He caught a glimpse of her
silhouette, and says, (at that point) “I
knew it was going to be an emotional
day.”
Ironically, the wedding day was the
first rainy day in months in the Arizona desert, which both bride and groom
considered to be good luck. The damp
and windy conditions only added to
the enormity of the day for Carmen
and Mark.
Standing before two officiants
reciting the ceremony in Spanish and
English, the couple was moved with
emotion. “As we stood before Reverend
Buhla,” recalls Mark, “the verse she was
reciting had a major impact . . . with
flowing robes and a raised voice for all
to hear.” The groom himself had been
so wrapped up in the proceedings that he held his
breath. When asked to speak, he could only gasp,
which was indicative of his enthusiasm.
