South and West:
Two of our Favorite Destinations

Happiness may be found in your own backyard. Then again, it may be in one of these two wedding and honeymoon sites just a short flight away.

Mexico

One of the most luxuriously relaxing destinations we’ve discovered is located just south of the border in Puerto Penasco. The Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort is a 350-acre golf community, which is growing in popularity. It is upscale and diverse, yet still affordable and not far at all from our landlocked home.

Nestled where the Sea of Cortez meets the Sonoran Desert, Las Palomas features everything we love about vacations by the sea—water sports, romantic sunsets, and ocean views that will take your breath away. The spa here is evocative of a Mexican hacienda and offers an extensive salon and spa menu to pamper you and your guests.

Lake Tahoe

These days, a “green” wedding typically refers to eco-friendly invitations and organic produce. While that is all good and well, we still love the green weddings available in romantic Lake Tahoe, California.

Typically divided into “North Shore” and “South Shore,” the Lake Tahoe area is a year-round vacation destination with wonderful areas for exchanging wedding vows. Whether you choose al fresco locations where you can feel the cool breeze and smell the invigorating scent of pine trees or one of the lovely hotels or B&Bs, you won’t be disappointed in the refreshing change from our desert home.

The bustling North Shore features outstanding restaurants, gorgeous scenery and nightlife to put the “party” in “wedding party.” The more bucolic South Shore has a small-town feel with unparalleled views of the pristine lake.

Lodging options range from rustic cottages and high-rise hotels to expansive private homes for rent. Resort lovers will be thrilled with Northstar at Tahoe, which includes an amazing village filled with tony restaurants and shops, and The Resort at Squaw Creek, which offers a fantastic spa, stunning views and fabulous catering for your wedding. In the summer months, you can ride the chair lifts to the top of the slopes and ride your mountain bike down! With fly fishing, snow skiing, water skiing, championship golf courses, tennis, a complete fitness center and so much more—your guests will be thanking you for choosing this destination.

Not at all far from home, you can reach Lake Tahoe via flights to either Sacramento or Reno; from either airport, it’s just a short drive to this cool, green paradise.
