If your dream destination
wedding can be described as green,
cool, and beautiful, chances are,
you’re dreaming of Lake Tahoe. The
West’s largest freshwater lake offers
something for every visitor, including
world-class dining, outdoor
sports (snow skiing, waterskiing, hiking,
golf, mountain biking, rafting
and more!), gaming on the Nevada
side of the lake, and some of the
most romantic views in the world.
The fact that this slice
of paradise is just a short
flight from home is a
definite bonus.
Typically divided into “North
Shore” and “South Shore,” the Tahoe
area is a year-round vacation destination
with wonderful locations for
saying “I do” al fresco. The bustling
North Shore features outstanding
restaurants (We like GarWoods and
Wolfdale’s), gorgeous scenery and
nightlife. The more bucolic South
Shore is a sports enthusiast’s dream,
including the most sublime views of
the pristine lake all year long. Tiny,
romantic Café Fiore, with just seven
tables, is a must-visit dining destination
near the base of Heavenly Ski
Resort. (It’s listed in “Best Places to
Kiss in Northern California!”) Cozy
cafes, lodges and boutique resorts
dot the California side of the shoreline,
north to south.
Lodging options range from
rustic cottages, to high-rise hotels, to
expansive private homes for rent. Exchanging
vows with your sweetheart
while overlooking the tall pines and
the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains just might make you
feel you’ve gone to heaven. The fact that this slice of paradise is just
a short flight from home is a definite bonus. We suggest flying to
Sacramento or Reno and enjoying a short sojourn through the green
mountain roads to Lake Tahoe.
