When...

...Kerry O’Brien and Steve Hile wed at Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort last autumn, they centered much of their celebration on their love of nature.

The bride wore an elegant off-white silk taffeta gown and was accompanied by five attendants, each wearing a different autumn hue. She carried a round bouquet of mango calla lilies, brown coffee berries, rust orchids and burgundy dahlias. She wore a hairpiece fashioned of orchids and champagne crystals.

The ceremony site, which had been showered in fresh rose petals in anticipation of the exchange of vows, was an intimate setting that reflected the beauty of the Southwest. The wedding flowers imparted a casual elegance to the celebration, featuring autumn shades of calla lilies, mums, roses, dusty miller and honeysuckle.

A close friend, who officiated, designed a very personalized ceremony with the couple. Among the more poignant moments was the reading of a heartfelt letter from the groom to his future bride. Although the groom penned the words early in the couple’s courtship, he was surprised and moved by the depth of their meaning at the wedding.

The release of four white doves during the ceremony was enhanced by the spirited singing of birds in the courtyard. Says the bride, “The doves made a spectacular and inspiring flight and circled overhead several times before returning home.”

The couple’s concern for the environment was a conscious thought in the planning of their wedding, which included invitations made from recycled materials and wildflower seeds that could be planted by the guests.
