sometimes,
a modern-day couples love story...

invokes the memory of the romance of yesteryear. Set in Tucson’s historic Arizona Inn, the March wedding of Michelle O’Sullivan and Jay Bergesen
was a festive return to the day when parasols and
old Hollywood were in vogue.

As the bride explains, “Being at the Arizona Inn makes you feel like you are relaxing at a California resort in the 1950s. It has an old-world charm that we wanted our wedding to reflect.”

Carrying parasols prior to the ceremony, the bride and her attendants were delightful and demure— and protected from the bright Southwest sun. Feeling very much like Hollywood starlets, the girls glammed it up for photographer Ted Hewitt on the resort’s manicured lawns.

Michelle and Jay’s evening ceremony reception featured music that was significant to both husband and wife. Says Michelle, “Rather than the old standby of classical music, we chose contemporary songs that are meaningful to us.

The Sean Fleming Band from Michelle’s hometown of New York played a mix of traditional Irish music
and rock and roll, in honor of the bride’s Irish heritage. Junior bridesmaids joined in, entertaining guests with traditional Irish step dances.

The reception site was a study in old Hollywood glamour. With tables named after Grace Kelly, Humphrey Bogart and Elvis Presley, among others,
the guests could easily get into the spirit of the retro celebration. Many of the stars chosen as “table names” were past guests of the Arizona Inn.

As with all good romances, past or present, there were instances at the O’Sullivan-Bergesen wedding where time appeared to stand still. For this couple, it was their first dance. “It was a magical moment, with all our loved ones gathered around us, celebrating our new life together,” recalls Michelle.
