Today’s Engagement Session is soooo easy for me I might go bake some cookies with all the extra time I have (in reality, I may catch up on the embarassingly entertaining ”The Real Housewives of…” shows that are stacked up on my DVR). Rachel and Adrian’s pictures are really sweet, thanks to their very cool photographer Ted Hewitt, and Rachel was kind enough to answer some questions I had. I hit the jackpot because Rachel generously shared her story with me. Take it from here girl!
On a fated Sunday last October, Rachel rolled up to the regular meeting spot in front of the Starbucks at Main Gate of the University of Arizona in hopes of finding fellow cyclists to join her on a ride. While waiting, she encountered a group of 3 “old guys” getting ready for a mountain bike ride. Being the socialite that she is, Rachel introduced herself to Rene Ortega, Peter Brown, and Adrian Schumacher and wished them a pleasant ride.
The following Tuesday, Rachel found herself riding along side one of these old guys she had met. “How were the trails?” she asked. “O my God. Awesome!” Adrian and Rachel chatted all the way down Kinney, up Gates Pass Road, and then, after a brief pause in conversation on the way up the hill, all the way back to the U of A. Adrian told Rachel about his shop, Guitars, Etc., and invited her to drop in anytime.
That Friday, she did. “I was going to go for happy hour with a buddy, but she’s standing me up. Wanna go for a drink?” Adrian eagerly accepted. “Abso-friggin-lutely!” he said. “But I have dinner plans. Yesterday was my birthday, and my parents are taking me out. So just one drink.” Adrian and Rachel met a few hours later at Kingfisher where they decided a draft beer would be more appropriate than a martini, so Rachel hopped in Adrian’s turbo charged Subaru and they headed to 1702. After a beer, and more conversation, Adrian reluctantly took Rachel back to her car in the parking lot of Kingfisher. “Thanks for the beer.” Rachel said. “You know,” Adrian said as Rachel unbuckled her seat belt “it’s my birthday and I can do whatever I want. Would you like to come to dinner with me…and my parents?” “Sure!” Rachel answered. “What the hell!” So Rachel fastened her seat belt and the two drove to The Dish. On the way, Adrian made a phone call. “Mom, I’m on my way. make it a table for four.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
Naturally, bikes had to be incorporated into the engagement shoot. Rachel explains:
the bike in the photo is a vintage cruiser that Andy Gilmour, a local bike-builder, custom painted for Adrian several years ago
Action is always good for engagement sessions
A little class in the desert
I asked ”What is your favorite thing about Adrian? And what is Adrian’s favorite thing about you?”. Here are their adorable answers:
My favorite thing about Adrian is the way he supports me and encourages me to be my silly self.
Adrian’s favorite thing about me (he’s sitting right here as I type, supporting me…) “other than her gorgeous eyes, is the way that she speaks from her heart with a genuine candor that is hard to find.” (aaaawwww!! second favorite thing is how beautifully complementary he is!!)
Here is some more about this cool couple:
I now ride with a team called RideClean and Adrian rides with a local master’s team called GST. My life as a cyclist is new, actually. I’ve only been riding bikes for about 18 months, but every aspect of my life has been revolutionized by this new hobby/obsession. It has changed what I eat, what I wear, when I go to bed and when I wake up, who I hang out with, and, now, who I’ll spend the rest of my life with. Meeting Adrian has not only brought us together, but because of his history in Tucson’s cycling community, it has brought dozens of fantastic people into my life.
Tell me a little bit about your wedding: style, colors, inspiration, etc.
Adrian is from Australia and I have friends from all over the country, so the inspiration for our wedding is to show our friends and family what we love about Tucson. Our engagement shoot was in Catalina State Park which offers some of our favorite views of Tucson’s mountains. We want all the people we love to say “ah hah! so THIS is why A and R love Tucson!” We’ve chosen the Triangle L Ranch in Oracle for our ceremony and reception because of the natural beauty and casual atmosphere it provides. Our colors are sage, persimmon, and lavender…also favorite flavors!!
What are you most looking forward to after the wedding (or what about marriage is exciting to you as a couple?)
The most exciting part about marriage is knowing that we are committed to creating a life together and sharing it through the long rides ahead…in head winds and tail winds, flat tires and all, we’ll always know that there is someone there supporting us!
Collective sigh… (love is dreamy, isn’t it?)
Thank you so much to Rachel and Adrian for sharing so much of themselves with us. Ted, you are one heck of a photographer and we love your work! Thank you!
