I Do…Boot Camp
categories: Health and Beauty, Meet Our People

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and if you just got engaged, congratulations! We are thrilled about your good news. Since it’s possible that we all indulged our chocolate cravings yesterday, our topic today is quite fitting: it’s quite common that no matter how in shape we are, the prospect of a huge event like an upcoming wedding inspires us to work out just a little harder, focus on losing those few extra pounds  and commit to eating healthier.

The pictures, the dress, the honeymoon- all are motivation to look and feel our best but sometimes we need help. We start off great then seem to lose interest- I have been known to eat veggies all day long for a total of 1 day then fail miserably on day 2. And I plan to hike every Saturday morning but sleep seems to become more important. So you can see that I get it when your best plans go awry.

There was one thing that did work for me though- boot camp. The mix of cardio and strength keeps me interested and challenged which is why I need to tell you about I Do…Boot Camp.

Amelia Olsen, the trainer for I Do…Bootcamp will not only help you look and feel your best for your wedding, you will have fun doing it! Bootcamper Anna couldn’t resist sharing her experience:

After graduating college, I knew I wanted and needed to get back in shape for my wedding. I chose I Do… Boot Camp because I wanted to try a program that was tailored for future brides to be. After meeting Amelia in person, I thought she was a very sincere person who believed in her program, which is why I chose to join her boot camp.

I am now half way through her program, and I have to say that it is the best decision I could have made! Each workout has a mix of cardio, core, full body strengthening and stretching exercises. What I enjoy the most about working with Amelia is her energy! I like that she does the exercises with you, and is always checking to make sure I am doing them correctly and getting the best results. After her workouts, I always feel empowered and ready to start my day. In just two short weeks, I have already noticed how much stronger I am getting, how much weight I have lost, and best of all, how amazing I feel about myself!

Don’t you love hearing real people’s opinions and successes? Anna will be sharing her “after” results with us closer to her wedding in March.

So what can you expect from I Do…Boot Camp? Amelia explains: For my boot camp workouts I consistently rely on only using your own body weight for resistance training but every now and again I will add things such as medicine balls or body bars. Being a gymnast for so long, I really learned how to effectively use nothing but body weight to train with. I also incorporate cardiovascular training in the form of circuits and even relay races.

Here’s Amelia

I asked Amelia few more questions and I think you will agree that she’s the girl to get you wedding ready!

KG: What do you love most about this career?

A: I love helping people realize that they are capable of far more than they ever imagined. It’s really nice to know that I’m not just helping people work out I’m helping them to change their lifestyle and become healthier. It’s also nice to never be confined to a desk and to be able to work outside in the beautiful Tucson weather.

KG: What is your fitness background?

A: I grew up as a competitive gymnast, competing for over 10 years, so I have always been extremely active and passionate about fitness. I graduated from Texas A&M University in December of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, specializing in Motor Neuroscience. I had always planned on getting my doctorate in physical therapy, but realized quite late in my college career that I had lost the passion I once had for it and decided to change my plan. In March of 2010, I became certified as a personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The summer before I graduated I had the opportunity to work as a fitness trainer for the Dallas Cowboy’s Cheerleaders. It was an amazing experience and that is where I got my first taste of “boot camp” style workouts. I worked under Jay Johnson, boot camp extraordinaire from Dallas, TX. After graduation, I got married, moved to Tucson and found my place as a personal trainer at BodyBasics.

KG: What inspired you to start a boot camp for brides?

A: Starting a bridal boot camp seemed to make sense to me because I only recently got married and was concerned about the way I looked in my dress. I soon realized that my concerns were also the concerns of almost every other bride out there. I figured that if I could create a boot camp that was specifically geared towards brides, it would not only help them get into shape, but it would give brides somewhat of a support system. Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things a girl can do and it’s something that not everybody understands. I Do…Boot Camp can give brides a chance to tone up and get fit as well as get rid of some of their frustrations without being intimidated by having a bunch of males in the class with them. Males are innately bigger, stronger and faster than females and that can often be daunting. By taking the males out of the equation, in my mind, it makes it a “safe haven” where brides meet to get fit and “stay sane”.

KG: How far in advance do you recommend brides start I Do…Boot Camp?

A: In a perfect world, I would recommend 6-8 months to work towards getting the body the body a bride wants, but it’s not always a perfect world. I would suggest starting 2-3 months in advance minimum. Having a couple of months will allow me to help the brides in the most healthy and effective way without overtraining and possibly causing injury.

KG: Do you have to already be in shape to be able to do the exercises?

A: Absolutely not. I Do…Boot Camp provides a safe and challenging workout to people of all fitness levels. Before each bride begins she will undergo a fitness assessment, which will highlight any injury (past or present) and show me what fitness level she is currently at. By doing this I can be aware of the strengths and challenges that each bride has which allows me to tailor her workout so that it is efficient.

The next session starts February 20th. Want to jump in and join I Do…Boot Camp or just have questions? Learn more on the I Do…Boot Camp website or just give Amelia a call at (520) 498-0359.

You will love yourself for taking on the challenge!

I Do…Bootcamp Trial Classes!
categories: Health and Beauty, Meet Our People

I think a universal phrase I hear from brides as soon as they slip that ring on their finger is “I need to get in shape for the wedding!” I can’t blame you gals, after all, there will be so many pictures on your wedding day and the spotlight is definitely on you all day long so you want to feel your best.

One option you have to help you feel and look your best on your wedding day is to join a bootcamp where you get what I call “Group Exercise Therapy”. You are with other like-minded people and there’s definitely a team effort feeling to this style of workout. I Do…Bootcamp classes are beginning in January but they have been hosting free trial classes in the month of December and there’s one more left for you to try- December 17th at BodyBasics. Here’s the info:

I have personal experience with bootcamps and I can tell you, there’s nothing to be scared of. The trainers are understanding and knowledgeable, the group is working toward a common goal, and if you stick with it, you will feel stronger and healthier.  Will you lose weight and tone up? That depends on how much you push yourself. I would trust the I Do…Bootcamp gals to help you reach your goals. Besides, you will see and feel progress which does wonders for your mental health too!
